Appointments

We schedule only a limited number of well child visits a day, to be sure that we will always be able to see sick children promptly. Trying to avoid long waits in reception room, we stick to an appointment schedule and do not see "walk-ins". Please try to call early in the day for sick visits. Another good suggestion is to schedule your next well child visit when checking out after the current visit.

After Hours Calls

For urgent care after hours that cannot wait until the next morning, we recommend East Cooper Regional Medical Center. For critically ill children, we recommend the MUSC pediatric ER. MUSC can be reached at 792-1414.

Referrals

If your insurance plan or HMO requires a referral from this office to see another physician, specialist, or to receive a form of therapy, be sure to get the referral before your visit to that office. It takes us time to prepare referrals and most insurance plans are no longer accepting referrals made after a visit.

Charges

Unless previous arrangements have been made, payment is due at the time of service. If your insurance requires a co-payment, it is due at the time of service. The insurance companies require that a co-payment be made at every office visit, with a few exceptions for some plans. We do accept Visa and Mastercard. If you have any questions about charges or insurances, please talk to Beth, our Office Manager.

Emergency Room Visits

If your child has an emergency that threatens life or limb, go directly to a hospital. If you can possibly call us first, we can notify the hospital of the emergency, and facilitate your child's visit. If Dr. Eglen or one of the covering physicians tell you to go to the emergency room, please call the office the next business day so that we can follow up on the ER treatment. (This call is especially important if your insurance requires a referral to cover the ER visit.)

Well Child Visits

We schedule well-child visits to co-ordinate with the immunization schedule at two weeks, 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 months, 2 years and annually after that. To be certain that we are able to care for sick children on the day they call, and to prevent over booking, we limit the number of well child visits in any day. Due to vaccine production shortages, we are unable to offer same day well visits. We will schedule your child's well visit at least two weeks in advance to assure the vaccines your child needs are in stock. Making your appointment for your next visit as you are leaving is a good idea.

Hospitalization

When hospitalization is necessary we admit to MUSC which has an excellent nursery and pediatric ward.

Prescription Refills

Some medications, for chronic problems, can be refilled. If you need a refill, please call the office during regular office hours. Please have the name and phone number of the pharmacy and the prescription number available when you call. Please allow 24-48 hours for all medicine refills including ADHD medicines.

Prescriptions cannot be refilled if the child has not been seen in the office within the past year. Some prescriptions cannot be refilled without a visit and we will advise you if this is the case.

Forms

We are happy to fill out any necessary paperwork including college physicals, camp/sports forms, shot records, etc. However, due to the high number of requests during certain times of the year, please allow 24 - 48 hours for completion.
